LK heating and tap water solutions to Under in Norway – Europe’s first underwater restaurant

Europe’s first and the world’s largest underwater restaurant Under was designed by architectural practice Snøhetta and the driving force behind the project is brothers Gaute and Stig Ubostad, owners of Lindesnes Havhotell. The name Under refers both to the architecture that breaks through the waves and the process itself, which breaks with traditional construction engineering standards.

Many local entrepreneurs have participated in the project, including long-standing LK customer ERV Teknikk Lyngdal AS, which won the contract to engineer the restaurants pipework.

As a submerged periscope

With its metre-thick concrete walls and solid acrylic windows, the restaurant is built to withstand the pressures exerted by the sea, waves and wind. Unlike the experience of being in an aquarium, Under functions as a submerged periscope designed as part of the natural surroundings and creating an artificial reef five and a half metres beneath the surface, with dramatic views across this rare ecosystem.
